Bet you have never heard of nigritude ultramarine, have you?

If you have heard of "nigritude ultramarine", then you are in the know. The secret of nigritude ultramarine? What is it? Kinda creepy sounding too but what the blazes is it?

What I can tell you is that 'nigritude ultramarine' was recently the Number 4 search in Alexa, right after 'Iraqi prisoner photos' and before 'Al Quaeda', so it shows you the level of interest:
  • Iraqi prisoner photos
  • Nigritude Ultramarine
  • al quaeda

I can also tell you that a mere 11 days ago, searching Google for the term, nigritude ultramarine or "nigritude ultramarine", produced zero results. Today, the same search will return over 135,000 results, including websites with various combinations of the words, nigritude, and ultramarine. By tomorrow, that number will have increased, by June 7th it should be at fever pitch and by July 7th, it should be off the scale!

If you are feeling left out of the loop, you are not the only one, believe me. Head scratching is going on across the world as ISP's and Admins on networks try to figure out why the traffic is peaking for such a strange phrase. What is it? Has the world gone mad?

I can't answer the second question but I can tell you that "nigritude" is defined as 'the state of being black'; and "ultramarine" is defined as 'a blue pigment'.

Huh? Exactly! You now know the answer ... well almost.

The whole thing is a competition, dreamt up by the guys at Search Engine Guild and being held among people in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) industry; professionals and amateurs alike, to try to rank their website, by any means possible, at number 1 on Google for the phrase, you've guessed it, "nigritude ultramarine".

Why choose this particular phrase? Simple. They are proper words and there were no results being listed for the phrase at all before 7th May, 2004. Now, 11 days later, there are 135,000 returns for it. By June 7th, 2004, the date of the first prize winner, the number of sites listing will probably be close to 500,000 as everyone tries to become number #1. Just for fun too!

There is a 'staying prize' for whoever can last the longest at the top spot. This is chosen on July 7th so goodness knows how many sites are going to be vying for the top spot. What are the prizes I hear you ask. Something called an "iPod" (whatever that is) and a flat screen monitor.

So there you have it. You are in the loop ... in the know.

You can help me get to number one by linking to this thread using the term, Nigritude Ultramarine. Thanks.
